RSS - Shakha , Varshikotsava & Sangh festivals (Utsav's)
In addition to daily Shakas festivals (utsavs) are held through out the year at various levels and these festivals provide an opportunity to know about about our Culture and traditions and they also help Swayamsevaks in building their ability to work together for a common cause. Festivals also serve as an occasion to reach out to local community and increase Organization's touch point with the larger Society.
The Sangh has popularized the observance of six national festivals of social significance:
Varsha Pratipada or Hindu New Year on first day of Chaitra maasa
Hindu Samrajya Dinotsav on Jyeshtha Shuddha Trayodashi, commemorating the coronation of Chatrapati Shivaji
Gurupooja on Ashadha Poornima
Raksha Bandhan on Shravana Poornima
Vijayadashami on Ashwayuja Shuddha Dashami
Makara Sankranti
At Shakha level other than Shaka Varshikotsava they are opportunity to embark on other programs like Dwaja pradhan, Chandan, or Sahal , Parivar milan depending on the Shaka's ability to conduct these programs independently. It gives Swayamsevaks to plan, organize and execute programs on their own with guidance from Senior Swayamsevak's.
Dwaja Pradhan is an event where Shaka is presented with the sacred Bhagawa Dhwaj and Shaka takes the responsibility of hoisting it in daily basis in Shaka's. The Saffron colour of Bhagwa Dhwaj symbolizes Sacrifice and it has inspired thousands of Young men to devote their life in the service of nation.
Chandan program is a simple breakfast conducted with swayamsevaks at any swayamsevaks home in a weeks or months & Chandan program at on full-moon day (or at least closer to Poornima). The daily Shakha of RSS is undoubtedly the most visible symbol and soul of the organisation. Its a daily assembling of boys and men for an hour under Bhagawa Dhwaj and doing Yoga playing games, singing songs, shlokas and Prarthana. Along with daily Shaka Org has started Weekly Milan's and Monthly Mandali's to invigorate various activities.
